We just finished shooting 17 products for Organic Rituals skincare line. They are all natural products handcrafted here in Alberta. Great products as I got to try them as we set them up. We tried to use some of the ingredients as well as part of the set up – like pomegranate seeds, roses, and mangoes.

Our image of a speeding police car, taken from the 23rd floor of the Coast Hotel in Vancouver, made it to print. This image was found through our blog and used for E-Comm 9-1-1, the regional emergency communications centre for southwest British Columbia. We also sold 5 images to the Government of Alberta recently for an annual report that were again found in our stock galleries.

October 31st is drawing near. Do you know what you have to fear?

Every Halloween people carve out the large orange fruit and light some candles. Why you might ask? Because that is what the Celtic ancestors that immigrated here did and what their ancestors before them did. You see there is a thought that the night before November 1 is open to visits from the deceased. Since not all deceased have the best of intentions there were certain precautions that needed to be undertaken. Carving the face of your lost loved ones and lighting it with a candle helped ward off the evil spirits. Only back across the pond they used turnips. North America didn’t have as many turnips as pumpkins and thus their hallowed destiny was so carved.

Dressing up also originates from people wearing masks and face paint to confuse the spirits so they could avoid being possessed. Have a spooky and safe Halloween.

New book about to go to press

Cover design and book layout

This one is almost ready to take flight. We are wrapping up the design and layout of the new book Pilot Projects – Making Innovations and New Concepts Fly by Shane Zbrodoff.

Mark designed the cover art which was set up to show a mix of technology and ideas taking flight. The inside layout involved a lot of graphs, tables and illustrations as part of the over two hundred pages.

The Calgary BMX club had a meet out at Blackfoot track. Over 400 competitors made for some exciting races.

Boys can be so proud of their scratches and bruises. This one was worthy of a photo. Or at least so I was told. Just look into those eyes and try to say, uhhh, no we don’t need another photo of your arm. Betcha you can’t do it either.

Anna is a sweet, fun-loving 2 year old that I had spent couple of hours with. We caught all kinds of poses. Funny, wild, wacky and sometimes, just a little serious.

Ravens

On a trip to Banff we came across a very bold raven who didn’t mind getting his photo taken. On a previous trip to an area near Cathedral Mountain we came across old mining relics including this old light fixture and the metal background. Combined together created a unique picture with the rust and lighting adding interesting effects.
